Powerful images of starving children from across the world often leave people wondering, “What can I do?”. Stones Jewelry is taking the initiative to help.
During the month of April, Stones Jewelry will be donating 100 percent of the proceeds from replacement watch batteries to Feed My Starving Children. This is a locally based charity which helps put together nutritious meal packs for kids across the world.
“Stones Jewelry has donated and worked for this charity before, and we’ve always been so touched by just how much they do for kids,” said Stones Jewelry owner Brad Huiner. “We’re so happy to be able to participate, again and to give in this way.”
Replacement batteries run about $5 on average. Stones will also put a jar out on our store counter for customers to donate. Feed My Starving Children reported that $80 could feed a child for an entire year, so every little bit helps.
Feed My Starving Children has sent food to nearly 70 countries, including Cambodia, Ghana, Sudan and India. They have also worked with victims in U.S. states such as Louisiana and Mississippi after disasters. As a non-profit, they have shipped 600 million meals with just under 100 percent making it to hungry children.
By putting together custom meal packs that include soy, rice, vegetables, vitamins and minerals, the group is able to get children the nutrition they need to survive.
With more than 95 percent of this non-profit’s funding coming from private funding from churches, foundations, corporations and small businesses like Stones, we feel it is our responsibility to help them feed children across the world.
A great cause
The great work Feed My Starving Children has done for kids across the world has left us in awe. As of February 2013, the non-profit was given its eighth consecutive four-star rating from Charity Navigator, the highest possible rating.
Stones Jewelry is glad to assist in this incredible cause throughout the entire month of April. Contact our store for more information or feel free to stop by and purchase a replacement battery for your watch…or several watches! It may help save a life.
